A Month To Remember

September has been a month to remember for our local golfer Max Orrin.

We recently introduced Max as one of the world’s leading amateurs with aspirations of playing in the Walker Cup and also turning professional. Well this month it all came true for the North Foreland golfer.

Whilst the results will show that Britain and Ireland lost to the USA (17 -9) at the National Golf Links in Southampton, New York, and Max’s contribution managed half a point in four matches, the fact that his prodigious talents and focus took him there in the first place is highly commendable.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Walker Cup, it is effectively the amateur version of the Ryder Cup (which until 1979 was contested by Britain and Ireland and the USA). The event showcases some of the world’s best amateurs, many of whom will, as their next step, progress to the professional ranks.

This is exactly what Max has decided to do, ending a fruitful amateur career as the seventh best amateur golfer in the world.

He said on Twitter: “Back home after a great week at the Walker Cup. Didn’t quite go our way but it was one of the best experiences of my life so far.

“I’m now moving on to the professional side of the game and can’t thank everybody enough for all the messages of support. I can’t wait!”
