Spencer Private Hospital tops league table for quality of hospital food

Date: 10/11/2014

We are delighted to be named in Patient Surveys as the best provider of hospital food nationally, outperforming all other hospitals across the NHS and Independent sector. Spencer Private Hospitals achieved a rating of 99.82% for the quality of its food. The next closest rating in Kent was 95.68%.

The results are released in the same week that Jeremy Hunt, Health Secretary, announces a shake-up of hospital food, bringing in legally binding clauses in hospital Trust contracts to improve the quality of food. In an announcement, the Government revealed that patients will in future be able to access data on NHS Choices on the quality of hospital food, in order to help make informed choices about where they choose to have their care provided.

Our CEO Di Daw said “Spencer Private Hospitals have always placed patients at the centre of everything we do and the quality of food is as important to us as the quality of nursing care. We are passionate about giving our patients the best possible tools to help them recover and good nutrition is a vital part of this." I welcome the Health Secretary’s announcement today in improving food quality across all hospitals. We have worked extremely hard to maintain our standards of quality and are exceptionally proud to have been named as number one in the country as part of the PLACE results.”

Released by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), the Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) surveys use members of the public to help assess hospitals across 4 key areas: Cleanliness, Food, Privacy, dignity and wellbeing and Condition, appearance and Maintenance. We always perform exceptionally well in these assessments, achieving 100% for cleanliness again in 2014.
