Mr Nitin Shrotri

After qualifying as a General Surgeon in Baroda, India, Mr Shrotri trained as a Urologist in the South East of England and worked as a Specialist Registrar at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He was appointed at East Kent Hospitals as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in December 2000. His MSC thesis was on ‘The use of prostatic stents’. Mr Shrotri has extensive expertise and interest in the management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and the use of different lasers to treat this condition. He also has experience with various lasers such as the KTP (Greenlight), Diode, Thulium and Holmium lasers. He is initiating the use of the Urolift device for BPH at the Chaucer Hospital.

Special clinical interests: His other area of sub-speciality interest is renal tract stone disease, and he has experience in performing Percutaneous and ureteroscopic surgery for Urinary stone disease. The use of the Holmium laser has revolutionised the treatment of stone disease in East Kent, which has the highest incidence of the condition in the UK. He also treats paediatric and general urology patients.
Research interests: Mr Shrotri’s other interest is teaching, and he was College Tutor for surgery and Senior Trainer for Urology Trainees at Kent and Canterbury Hospital until 2012. He is Sub-Dean and Honorary Senior Lecturer (Teaching) for students from King’s College, London and Director of Medical Education for students from St Georges University, Grenada, West Indies. He was Departmental Lead from 2011-2013.

He has a number of publications on various topics, including Laser prostatic surgery, Stone disease, Urological conditions in pregnancy and Laparoscopic surgery. He is a member of the Core Urology Multi-Disciplinary Team for Cancer in East Kent, the Urology Disease Orientated Group for Kent, British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Endourology Society. He has also been Departmental Lead from 2011-13
