Mr Mota is a highly experienced private Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgery Consultant. He has extensive knowledge of the eye socket and surrounding area and is currently the only Orbital surgeon in East Kent who does joint clinics and Surgery with ENT and Maxillo-Facial Surgeons.

As a regular contributor to the field of Oculoplastics, Mr Mota has published and presented internationally, such as his work on the efficacy and safety of Phenylephrine in Sage Journals (2014) and published studies in BOPSS.

Background Information

Mr Mota is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon. He has expertise in numerous eyelid and eyebrow conditions and procedures, from aesthetic eyelid surgery and facial palsy to repairing malposition of the eyelid.

Education

Mr Mota qualified in Medicine from the University of Southampton in 2004 and also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Neurosciences from University College London.

Mr Mota did his Ophthalmology and initial Oculoplastic advanced training at Oxford. After this, he continued to study with a Fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at Leicester.

Experience as a Consultant Ophthalmologist

After his studies were complete, Mr Mota was appointed in 2017 as a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic/Orbital Surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust.

Between 2017 and 2023, Mr Mota was the lead for the Urgent Eye Service at East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust.

As a thyroid eye disease specialist, Mr Mota now runs a joint Facial and Oculoplastic clinic with his Maxillo-Facial Consultant colleague (Mr Kemal Tekeli) at EKHUFT. Together, they provide a highly specialised service for patients requiring complex care to the face and eye region.

Mr Mota also works alongside his Ear, Nose & Throat Consultant colleague, Mr Bertram Fu, to provide a lacrimal service (watery eye clinic) at EKHUFT.
