Plastic Surgeons in Kent Confirm Cosmetic Surgery is On The Rise

Date: 08/04/2013

Spencer Private Hospital’s plastic surgeons in Kent are in agreement that cosmetic/plastic surgery is on the rise.

A survey by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), of surgical procedures carried out by its members, reported that Cosmetic Surgery treatments and procedures have seen a notable increase with 43,172 surgical procedures performed in 2012. Breast augmentation (with almost 10,000 procedures) is still the most common cosmetic surgery.

Anti-ageing procedures are increasing in popularity especially the procedure of “fat transfer” which adds volume to areas of the body which have lost plumpness through age. The procedure has had a 13% increase in one year (2,641) and involves transferring fat from one part of the body to another e.g. thigh or hip to face or hand.

Liposuction, the process of removing fat, however, has seen a 14% reduction in women undergoing this procedure (2,638).

Comments from BAAPS:

Rajiv Grover, consultant plastic surgeon and Baaps president, said:

“Interestingly, for the first time we see a greater number of women having procedures to re-insert fat – known as fat transfer, to add volume to the face – than to remove it, in the form of liposuction.”

Only 1 in 10 procedures by was carried out on men with nose jobs, eyelid surgery and breast reduction the most popular.
