Digital Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)

Spencer Private Hospitals have joined forces with My Clinical Outcomes to complete Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) digitally.

What are PROMS?

PROMs are clinically-validated assessments that record the impact of a condition on a patient’s life at a point in time. This can be the degree of pain the patient is feeling, the ability to function normally with this condition as well as how the patients overall quality of life is impacted.

This data collected from patients helps Spencer Private Hospitals to ensure the highest standards of care is being delivered to all patients.

What surgeries and procedures do we collect this data for?

We are required to provide this data for regulatory requirements to NHS England and also submit anonymised (de-identified) PROMs data on some surgical procedures to the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN).

PHIN will compare between private healthcare hospitals across the UK and publish data about clinical quality and patient satisfaction for each private healthcare hospital to help patients make more informed choices.

PROMs are collected for the following procedures and sent to NHS England:

  • Hip Replacement
  • Knee Replacement

PROMs are collected for the following procedures and sent to PHIN:

  • Hip Replacement
  • Knee Replacement
  • Shoulder Replacement
  • Carpal Tunnel (Wrist) Surgery
  • Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)
  • Cataract Surgery
  • Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
  • Nasal Septoplasty procedures
  • Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Why have we gone digital?

This move to digital PROMs will speed up the opportunity for patients to update on their outcomes without the need for pen and paper which not only makes the customer journey quicker and slicker, but also positively impacts to carbon footprints and emissions from pen, paper, printing and posting.

Is it secure?

My Clinical Outcomes are fully General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant as well as holding ISO27001 accreditation for information security management. They are audited annually by the British Standards Institute with no reported concerns raised. My Clinical Outcomes also holds Cyber Essential Plus certification as well as the platform being penetration-tested at least annually by CREST-accredited specialists.

My Clinical Outcomes has worked in partnership with Spencer Private Hospitals to develop a bespoke version of the platform specifically for Spencer Private Hospitals patients undergoing treatment at all three of our hospitals.

Why My Clinical Outcomes?

My Clinical Outcomes are a nationally recognised company and a recommended provider of PROMs. My Clinical Outcomes uses a secure platform for patients to answer survey questions that only specific staff at Spencer Private Hospitals can access.

My Clinical Outcomes supports Spencer Private Hospitals journey for reduced use of paper and a reduction in carbon emissions. It is a web-based digital platform for collecting and analysing Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in routine clinical practice. The platform was originally developed by UK doctors in 2011 and has been in clinical use ever since, with over 150,000 patients registered having used the platform with over 1,000 clinicians at over 200 UK NHS and private hospitals.

How do I register on My Clinical Outcomes platform?

The platform is web-based so can be accessed on all modern devices and browsers, including smartphones and tablets.

Eligible patients will see on their Pre-Assessment appointment letters and Inpatient Booking letters a website link that they can visit from their usual browsers and also a QR code that they can scan with their smart phones. This will lead patients to our secure My Clinical Outcomes Spencer Private Hospitals platform to begin registration.

Patients will also be given a small card upon arrival for their Pre-Assessment appointment with the QR code on and during their appointment, the Pre-Assessment Nurse will give patients more information about PROMs and also be given a leaflet with more information.

This leaflet will also contain the QR code and website link for patients to self register in their own time on a browser of their choice.

Patients will find the registration process simple and secure and only needs to be completed once. You will be issued tailored, specific PROMs questionnaires to your condition.

Questionnaires will be available through a personal dashboard that can then be accessed at any time by you and will show your latest results, and any previous results from any previous questionnaires you have completed as well as your progress as you continue to complete questionnaires.

Your personal dashboard will show when the next questionnaire prompts will be sent and you will receive an email and / or a text message reminder when your next assessment is due. The aim of this process and multiple questionnaires is to capture your feedback and updates regularly which will build up a picture over time, rather than capturing every change on a daily or weekly basis.

PROMs results will not be used in isolation to plan your care. The information you provide on these questionnaires will not replace your usual care and taking part is not mandatory for patients.

Please contact your doctor directly if you have any concerns regarding your health.

If you are having a planned procedure from the list above, you can also self-register for PROMs prior to yout Pre-Assessment appointment at My Clinical Outcomes.
