Dr Smith is a member of the British Paediatric Respiratory Society (BPRS), the British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI) and European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (EAACI). He was involved in the development of the National Standards of care on the provision of Paediatric Allergy Services in secondary care drawn up by the BSACI.

Dr Smith has an Allergy, Respiratory and General Paediatric interest seeing children with food and respiratory allergies including asthma, hay fever and eczema.

Dr Smith is also responsible for the care of children with Cystic Fibrosis in the Southern half of East Kent for whom he has established a multidisciplinary unified service which has been well commended.

He is the Trust Paediatric Education lead for East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and has served as College Tutor for the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH).

Dr Smith’s postgraduate work includes experience at the Hammersmith Hospital, London and Sheffield Children’s Hospital amongst other hospitals. He worked as Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and has published and presented work on multigenerational studies in Asthma and Allergy at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS) conferences.

Dr Smith is married with two children. He has had the opportunity to train in Nigeria and the United States, spending some time at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His postgraduate experience is also widespread working in various parts of the United Kingdom. He supports environmental sustainability and healthy living.
