Mr Shahid is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract & Vitreoretinal Surgeon at East Kent University Hospital NHS Trust. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Bristol in 2010, following which he completed his foundation training in South Thames Foundation School. He has a Masters in Clinical Ophthalmology from University College London. He completed his Ophthalmology training in the popular North London Deanery culminating in an 18-month fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was trained by experts within the field of surgical retina. His specialist surgical expertise includes but is not limited to: routine and complex cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, secondary intraocular lens implantation, vitreous haemorrhage & vitreous floaters. In addition to his vast vitreoretinal experience, he has extensive emergency Ophthalmology experience having worked as a locum consultant in the Accident & Emergency department of Moorfields Eye Hospital from 2019-2020. He has several publications in peer reviewed journals including Retina, British Medical Journal, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Eye etc., as well as having presented in a number of international conferences in U.K and Europe. In his free time he likes to play tennis and cricket as well spend time with his young family.
